Public talk: Honan Chapel
September 20 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The Honan Chapel, consecrated in 1916, was commissioned on the revolutionary fault-line of the political transformation in Ireland. As a case study scholars have reflected upon the chapel as an expression of the memory of Insular visual culture, as a legacy of the Irish Arts and Crafts movement (1893 -1925) and as an experiment in the possibilities of artistic flourishing in the emerging Irish Free State after 1922. This public talk led by Virginia Teehan, James Cronin, Damian Bracken and Diarmuid Scully will discuss the historical and artistic significance of the Chapel. the event is coordinated by Malgorzata D’Aughton, School of History.
